Immigration April 11, 2006

And why I am silent on it? Well, to be honest, I don't know enough about the issues to be properly informed. Some random thoughts, however:

  1. It strikes me as unjust on the surface that some people are essentially just wandering in, while it is difficult for others (notably Europeans) to come in. But please remember, this is a surface observation!!
  2. I agree with Cardinal Mahony on almost nothing, but what he has said about needing to be open to them strikes a chord with me, and I suspect is the proper Christian reaction.
  3. Leave it to the MoonBats to show their hypocrisy once again. Kos uses the following quote to head a diary entry:
    • "Attention! All you Christianists who want to embed the Bible in the Constitution! Embed Leviticus 19:33-34 in there while you're at it:

" 'When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.'"

Right. There they go again. How is it these self-proclaimed Godless liberals are now using Scripture to hang conservatives on their own petard?

My response: By all means, use Scripture!!! But before beating conservatives over the head with it, please remember this little quote as well:

"Thou shalt not kill." Exodus, 20:13.

See, the funny part about the Bible is that it is not designed for cherrypicking. You either buy into the idea that God is good and He arranged for this little piece of literature to be promulgated as His Big Idea, or you reject Him and His teaching.

In short, if you're gonna quote Levitcus on immigration (and it sounds valid to me), start checking up on your Exodus the next time you want to pick on those mad Fundies and their determination to make abortion illegal.

WHEN will the Democrats learn that they can pick up a ton (and I mean a TON) of votes if they would simply get consistent on their positions? They're the party of compassion, they say? Fine. SHOW that compassion to the most helpless among us, and heaven knows I would look long and hard at voting Democratic. Until then, no way.

UPDATE: and for pity's sake, while I am at it, the Kossack said this:

"Attention! All you Christianists who want to embed the Bible in the Constitution!"

Um, "Attention! Earth to the oxygen deprived!!! Easily 90% plus of ALL OUR LAWS, and that includes the Constitution, derive their pedigrees from Judeo-Christian law. All that these 'Christianists' (that you so grossly mislabel) are only trying to get the laws to mean what they were originally intended to do; recognize the hand of God in the creation of the world, moral laws and of nations.

Again, that's O2 you are in need of. Get out of the echo chamber, go outside, and take a deep breath. Neurons in your brain need O2 to function."
