Mary Cheney, Class Act June 13, 2006

Quite seriously. I listened to an interview with her on WHYY's Fresh Air with Terry Gross.(an aside: I am no fan of Terry Gross. I find her politics rather transparent, and she has the unfortunate habit of stammering when reaching for an interview question. Make no mistake, on-air interviewing is not the easiest thing in the world, and I would stammer in a similar situation. But I am not in radio, partially for that very reason. Back to the post)

In this interview, Cheney is discussing her recently published memoir, Now It's My Turn.

And she is class act, through and through, issues of personal sexuality notwithstanding. I expect KosKids -and Terry Gross herself- had to hold their heads together to keep them from exploding as this admitted lesbian also admitted that she feels Bush is the best possible leader for the US, and she excoriated both Kerry and Edwards for attempting to score "cheap political points" off of her orientation during the 2004 campaign.

Check out the link right away, as I am unsure how long NPR links remain active.

Yes, because being gay isn’t just about sexuality, it’s a secret society of people who all think exactly the same about everything at all times, and the idea that someone could be romantically interested in people of their own sex and at the same time want to do away with the estate tax just causes steam to shoot out of our empty liberal heads, and we stagger around the room shouting “DOES NOT COMPUTE” like robots from a bad 50’s sci-fi movie.

Oy, gevalt.

As a matter of fact, given the lock-step thinking that permeates such sites as kos and pharyngula, (one can provide examples ad infinitum) your description really isn’t that far off.

Yes, and for every Democratic Underground there is a Little Green Footballs. However, I really doubt Terry Gross is a member of either site.

Oh, and I like your little caveat about how it's possible for someone to be a good person even if they're homosexual. Nice. Next you'll be telling me that, despite the whole "Jewish" thing, Jesus was actually a pretty cool guy..

Admiring the time and effort you put into your site and in depth information you
present. It’s nice to come across a blog every once
in a while that isn’t the same out of date rehashed information. Great read!
I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds
to my Google account.
