The most telling stat?

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, since the start of the 2004 postseason, Ortiz has come to the plate in 19 walk-off situations. And he has successfully reached base 16 times, hitting 11-for-14 with seven home runs.

For those of you not familiar with baseball, those stats, especially the bold one, are absolutely and completely sick.  A real strong hitter is expected to get a base hit 33% of the time.  Ortiz -known as Big Papi to Red Sox fans- is hitting an utterly unconscious .785 in situations where his getting a base hit would win the game for the Sox.  79% of the time.  Unheard of.  Unconscious.

And absolutely beyond value to the Red Sox, the denizens of Fenway Park, and every Yankee hater in the nation (including me).

David Ortiz for MVP.  The time has come.

How can you argue with those numbers!! He’s the epitome of clutch!

2. Wayne D - August 15, 2006

so what he did in 2004 should make him mvp in 2006.

It’s not just what he has done it’s what he continues to do. Right now he’s LEADING the majors with 46 homeruns, Big Papi for MVP.
