The Goracle is using the Global Warming Freakout to MAKE MONEY March 1, 2007

But I’m not talking about his bloviations for which I am sure he is paid an un-Godly amount of money.

I’m revisiting his electrically voracious mansion, and his self-righteous protestations that he is justified in doing so because he is:

  • Spending money to save the world, and
  • “offsetting” his electrical orgy.

How does this “offset” occur?

Glad you asked. (via Ecotality)

Essentially, it’s a payment someone makes to an environmentally friendly entity to compensate for personally using non-green energy.

So, where does the Goracle buy these offsets from so that he might tamp down his probably deficient conscience?

According to The Tennessean newspaper’s report, Gore buys his carbon offsets through Generation Investment Management. a company he co-founded and serves as chairman:

Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe…

As co-founder and chairman of the firm Gore presumably draws an income or will make money as its investments prosper. In other words, he “buys” his “carbon offsets” from himself, through a transaction designed to boost his own investments and return a profit to himself. To be blunt, Gore doesn’t buy “carbon offsets” through Generation Investment Management – he buys stocks.

In other words, the bloviating bastard is buying offset stocks in a company he owns. To render it all neat and short, he pays the offsets to himself. He moves money from one bank account to another, claims that this movement offsets his insane electrical consumption and pockets any profits from it.

Wow. I’d LOVE to try this one out with my annoying habit of eating too much ice cream. Hard on the cows, you know.

I HAVE IT!! I’ll create a company that provides counseling services and mammary massage for overburdened milk cows to offset my unconscionable ice cream consumption. That will comfort the cows, AND I’ll profit in the meantime. What a treat!!

As a further comment posted on Ecotality put it:

Hmmm. The Goracle is chairman and a founding partner of Generation Investment Management LLP, a boutique international investment firm that invests other peoples’ money, for a fee, into the stocks of ‘green’ companies. … So when Al beats the drum for possible future global warming, he’s also drumming up business.

The bastard is worse than sellers of indulgences. The swine is both seller and consumer of his own indulgences, and he then impresses his followers by doing so.

It’s called a shell game, folks. Anthropogenic global warming cannot be proven for thousands of years, and its primary mouthpiece is exactly like PZ Myers’ worst nightmare of a priest; creating fears in people based on a faith-based concept of Total Doom coming soon, and then feeding off of people’s fears and profiting thereby.

The Anchoress (who else?) got me started on today’s linkfest. Check it out, and follow as many of the links as you can. Lamentable reading.

Read the whole article:

“Paul’s campaign said it had not authorized production of the Ron Paul dollars.

“We have no connection with that,” said Jesse Benton, a campaign spokesman for Paul. “He was using Ron as a marketing technique. We didn’t have anything to do with that or sanction it or give permission in any way.”
